New BlackBerry KEYone 64 GB Black
In early August, Optiemus Infracom, which owns the license for the BlackBerry brand in India, launched the BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black. The new version of the smartphone with improved specifications, at the time of this review, was released only for the Indian market, at least so far the availability of the new smartphone in other markets has not been reported, although according to some reports, the European version of the BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black may be presented in early September at IFA 2017.
Before we get down to the review, it is worthwhile to tell a little about who is behind the production of this smartphone.
There are currently three companies that BlackBerry has licensed the BlackBerry brand to manufacture and sell smartphones. These are TCL Communication, Optiemus Infracom and BB Merah Putih. Optiemus has acquired the rights to the BlackBerry brand in India, BB Merah Putih in Indonesia, while China's TCL Communication is the main partner supporting global markets including North New BlackBerry KEYone 64 GB Black America, Europe, the Middle East, China and Latin America.
Given that it was TCL who brought the BlackBerry KEYone to market, there was no guarantee India would get it as well, since TCL has no rights to sell devices in that market. However, the launch of the enhanced version of KEYone in India, which was in charge of Optiemus, shows that BlackBerry device licensing partners can work together if they choose.
Optiemus' BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black was released in China and manufactured by TCL and imported by Optiemus. The entire first batch of devices was provided by TCL, but according to CrackBerry, Indian customers will start receiving devices released in India in September.
Optiemus' BlackBerry KEYone comes in a box labeled "Limited Edition Black". Despite the fact that the device, judging by its name, is limited, the package bundle is quite standard - exactly the same as that of the regular KEYone. Includes USB Type-C cord, charger and headphones:
BlackBerry 20KEYone.
It should be noted that in contrast to the first photos and press renders, the live BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black looks a little different. We hope our photos will convey this feeling. He really is absolutely black saturated color.
The back panel of the smartphone is made of textured plastic with a soft-touch coating that resembles rubber to the touch. The material and its texture are chosen quite well, the KEYone is securely held in the hands, but at the same time it does not collect dust and debris, and there are practically no fingerprints left on it. In the center of the rear panel there is a glossy BlackBerry logo made of aluminum with a black finish. In the upper part, on the border of the plastic and metal parts of the body, a camera module is embedded, surrounded by a ring made of aluminum, also with a black coating, and a dual-tone LED flash.
In the upper part of the front panel there is a front camera, sensors, an RGB LED for indication, a speaker grill made with laser perforation. Below is a 4.5-inch display with an aspect ratio of 2: 3, protected by Gorilla Glass 4.
The display is 2.5D, the edges of the protective glass are curved, repeating the shape of the metal edging on the upper part of the case, but the display itself is flat. The physical touch keys are located under the display, and the keyboard below them.
The KEYone keyboard is a classic BlackBerry four-row QWERTY keyboard with a slightly simplified key shape that almost exactly mimics the shape and size of the BlackBerry PRIV keyboard. It is possible that a keyboard with a more complex key shape, like on the Classic, would be preferable for most users, but the shape change was dictated by the implementation of device control using gestures, so a smoother keyboard is more appropriate.
In general, the KEYone is much more comfortable to use than the PRIV due to the correct weight distribution, increased beard and less leverage. The side keys are also rounded and in general the shape of the keyboard completely follows the profile of the case. The keyboard itself is soft and very pleasant. Exactly what a BlackBerry smartphone should have. The "frets" of the keyboard in the BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black version also have a glossy black finish, in contrast to the silver, which is shown on most press renders.
The space bar has a built-in fingerprint scanner that allows you to “wake up” the device with one touch. This is a very interesting and
